San Nicola

Above the front door is a wooden choir with a beautiful XVIII century pipe organ

By Giovanni Scala

Along the road that leads to the Gavitella beach, a few yards below the church of San Gennaro, a staircase leads to the small square in front of the Chapel of St. Nicholas. The church facade is simple, with a single door and a walled window with the effigy of St. Nicholas painted on tiles. Above, the façade ends with a baroque decoration and a central arch containing a 1672 bell. The interior has a single nave with a barreled vault and two windows at the top facing the sea. The Chapel has a simple stucco altar but a beautiful terracotta tiled floor with geometric designs and a floral panel at the center, typical of the Amalfi Coast.

On the seaside there is an ancient Roman urn now used for holy water, and immediately above the front door is a wooden choir with a beautiful pipe organ that was built in Naples in 1700.

Amalfi Coasting is a “pet project” of a community organization started in the town of Praiano in 2013. We developed this web site as a tool to invite people from all over the world to get to know our town, discover its "secrets" and embrace it not just as a great tourist destination but also as a community, with its people, its traditions and all of its offerings.
